Cycle routes near Hatherleigh

A little something for cyclists ...

With miles of rolling hills and lush green countryside to offer, it’s really no secret that West Devon is home to some of the most thrilling and scenic cycling territory in the whole country. Hatherleigh is situated on Route 27 Cycle Route and the neighbouring village of Meeth offers direct access to The Tarka Trail

The Tarka Trail

To access The Tarka Trail, from Hatherleigh, follow the A386 to the north for approximately three miles. Upon reaching the small village of Meeth, proceed down the hill past the houses on your left. Turn left at the bottom, just before the main road starts to veer to the right up the hill. From here, keep left and follow the cycle path. There are plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments. The town of Great Torrington is approximately 10 miles from Meeth, from here you can get buses back to Hatherleigh; however, for the more adventurous cyclists, The Tarka Trail offers 180 miles of uninterrupted cycling across rolling countryside, past scenic towns/villages and the opportunity to take in North Devon’s dramatic coast line

The Granite Way

A little further afield, the neighbouring town of Okehampton is known as ‘The Northern Gateway to Dartmoor’ and has direct access to The Granite Way, spanning 11 miles from Station Road, Okehampton, all the way through to Lydford. This route is rated ‘easy to moderate’, being largely level. The Granite Way passes stunning areas of outstanding natural beauty such as Meldon Viaduct, Prewley Moor and Lydford Gorge.
